Let us talk about love. About personal love, and about Divine Love.

You know personal love. You have lived it. You have laughed in it. You have wept because of it. You have rejoiced in it. Your heart has probably opened and closed many times in it. You expanded and contracted in it, often trying to hold on to what felt precious as it slipped away.

This is the way of human love. It is the way of most lives.

It can be tender. It can be sincere. It can be fierce. It can be loud and it can be soft. Or it trembles. Or it even turns into terror.

So what is love?

There is an ancient wisdom that says: “The world is run by Love.”

We can observe this everywhere in nature. We can see that there is a law of love and mercy that directs everything in existence forward. There is a sacred order of harmony that is even observed by science.

So love is everywhere and in everything, but now we want to specifically focus on human love and divine love and their role on our path.

We tend to make things complex. So let’s say it simply first.

Love is Love.

There is an ultimate goal in love, no matter where it happens. Love is not just a feeling. Love is in itself a correcting power that overthrows all falsehood. So Love is a strict, but righteous teacher.

We can also see that when there is real affection, a heart begins to soften and to open, because love begins to flow. When there is real care, then it is love that takes care, and in this real love an ego always loses a little of its grip.

Human love teaches us to look beyond ourselves, to find this greater Love.

It is like coming over a false mountain top, beyond which, to our surprise, the real mountain top — a much higher one, appears, and we suddenly see the whole of the mountain we have been on all along.

Divine Love does not negotiate. It does not tremble. It does not waver. It does not depend on others.

This is the Love of the Divine that breathes in the secret chamber of our heart.

When we speak of Divine Love, we speak about something beyond our mental understanding. It is almost like a fragrance without a flower, or like a light without a source, or like an image without a picture. It is an impression that is at the same time not an impression; at the same time an eternal river, while also a shoreless ocean.

We can see it, but we don’t.

We cannot grasp Divine Love, while it still lies in everything as the greatest secret mystery of all life.

Divine Love is never transactional nor emotional. Divine Love is entirely different. Divine Love is a Presence. It is a state. Divine Love is like a temple that comes with us wherever we walk, and we see this temple wherever we look.

Divine Love is a gift that we both receive and give at the same time.

When we learn not to reach out to this love, but to reach out from this love, then through this love a divine radiance descends like a healing dew upon our heart, bringing us peace in which our minds can be still. It even silences the fight-or-flight of our body.

And when we follow this Love, it remains in us, around us, above us, and below us, like a mantle of Love, in which we are at the same time at home, in the temple of Love.

Love is simple. Love is as spacious as the universe, so it never shouts or argues.

In our human loving, we often run after love, often with our arms stretched out so far in our longing that we miss the treasure we carried in our pocket all along.

Human love is often the one who calls, while Divine Love comes to the door.

Human love will always say, “I need you.” While Divine Love will always say, “I am inside of you.”

Human love will exclaim, “Stay with me.” While Divine Love says, “I’ve always been here.”

Human love shoots up like a burst of fire that dies out later. Divine Love glows like a steady central sun that lights up the whole soul.

If we can recognise even a little of this Love, the smallest hem of it, then our human love begins to change. It becomes caring. It becomes giving. It becomes lighter. It becomes kinder. It becomes free.

It stops seeking its own comfort and begins to reflect the comforting Love of the Divine.

This is how love transforms us, and how we are transformed by it, not by rejecting the human that we are, with all our opposing sides, but by letting the Divine enter into our human and allowing it to create a new inner order.

As Divine Love rises in us, the trembling of personal love fades like ice melting from within, uncovering a whole new reality.

This reality does not need proof. It does not fade when things change. This reality of love lies behind everything like a Divine door that is always accessible.

As we step through this door, we step onto the trail that this love spreads directly in front of us.

Then Love will lead us, help us, steady us, ground us, transform us, and attract what is light and full of Love, in the Light of Love.

We only need to turn towards this Love each time personal love gives us the chance. Then we can make this new Love, this real Love, this Divine Love, our new way.

In this Love we are free. In this Love we live for real. In this Love we are, just as this Love is. As you, in your essence, are this Love.

We all expect things; it’s totally natural. We expect people to understand us; that plans go smoothly; that days unfold in the way we pictured them. Expectations make life feel predictable; they give us patterns to hold onto; a sense that we know where we’re headed. And often that helps. Expectation builds structure; it fuels hope; it also gives us the courage to act. But then life can suddenly remind us that it is much larger than our plans. Something shifts; someone leaves; a promise is broken; our life’s path takes a sudden turn we didn’t see coming. We feel lost. We feel wronged. We think: “This wasn’t supposed to happen.” But maybe it was supposed to happen. Maybe what’s happening isn’t a mistake, but life freeing us from the narrow space we tried to live in. It’s not wrong to expect. It’s simply that the expectation is too small for the magnitude of the powers that are found behind all life.

Think of the last time something didn’t go your way. At first it stung. Then, maybe later, you felt a quiet relief; a deeper truth; a perspective you didn’t have before. That’s how new life enters into us: it shows itself through what breaks. The light breaks in when our shell of control cracks open. It doesn’t arrive with fanfare. It slips in quietly; like a breath of peace returning after a long exhale. We can safely state that all plans are made from the past; from what we already know. But life speaks a different language: the language of the present moment.

Life moves like water; it is always new; it never repeats itself. And when we stop demanding that our new life matches our old patterns, we begin to see it. So how do we live, when nothing stays as we hoped?

We can find three steps in it. First, honesty is needed; acknowledging what we wanted; naming it and seeing it in the light of reality; loosens the grip it has on us. Secondly, we need to sit quietly with what follows; the quiet, uncomfortable space that appears when our plan dissolves. When we don’t rush to fill it, that’s where our new seeing begins. And thirdly, we learn to trust; not the kind that pretends everything is fine, but the kind that stays open even in the uncertainty of not knowing what’s coming next. This is a trust that follows the same rhythm that turns the tides. It is also guiding and unfolding us.

When our expectations fail, it is like standing in a river. We can fight the current; but we can also let it take us. The first brings exhaustion. The second takes courage; but the result is peace. Something happens when we stop fighting. In surrender, we start to see; we really see with clarity; and we notice how alive we are.

We feel alive because we inhabit the present moment, instead of waiting for the future to prove something to us. Expectation ties us to what we believe should happen; while presence opens us to what is happening. And in that space of presence, we no longer expect life to perform for us; instead, we allow life to unfold. We become less the actor of our self-made play; and more a witness to all the plays we are caught in. Not by being withdrawn, but by being quietly aware; by being a watcher in the middle of the motion.

And from that still centre, life moves us effortlessly along all experiences that enrich our soul.

We stop trying to fix a story. We start to trust the rhythm of life. We begin to understand that every difficult moment works to open us. Expectation says, “This is how it should be.” Life says, “This is how it is.” And then we can look. And when we do, when we really look, the cracks in our plans begin to show. The cracks through which the light falls in; and something in us glows back from our silent centre.

This is not the old light we tried to create, but a new one; a light that doesn’t belong to effort, but to the space of awareness. To live without expectations doesn’t mean to stop caring; it means to care differently; to care from presence instead of control. It’s to meet life with open hands; ready to see what’s real. And in that openness, peace begins to grow as a new consciousness. Not the peace of satisfaction, in which we get what we want, but the peace of being fully awake and present in the middle of it all. So when plans crumble, as they will, why not take a pause? Why rush to rebuild, reposition, replan, refortify? This is an opportunity to see the light radiating in front of us; allowing it to be seen and trusted.

This light that touches and heals everything is life, loving you. It is the light making you whole in ways you can’t yet name. May we all learn to see this light in the stillness of life’s broken expectations.

May we learn to live from this light — so that it may shine more and more clearly each time an expectation falls away. May this light fill our seeing; our feeling; our thinking; our breathing; our being; until we walk through each moment as the watcher; solid; steady; fully open; and fully free. And when the unexpected comes, and it surely will, may we remember that the light is finding its way into us.

We all know conflict. It exists everywhere around us, in families, in society, between nations. But most of all, it exists within ourselves.

We may experience a constant tug-of-war: one part of us wants one thing, another part wants something else entirely. I want peace, but I still get caught in fear. I long for love, but I feel how I cling, defend myself, and close my heart. I desire unity, and yet I divide the world into “me” and “them.”

Perhaps you have felt the same: you want to say something kind, but a sharp remark slips out. You want to take a step closer to someone, but pride or hurt holds you back. Many of us wish to live with meaning, but another part would rather just have comfort and distraction. And so the question for each of us is: what lies beyond conflict?

It helps to see where conflict really originates. Within us are two principles. One is the personality’s “I,” the part that wants to survive, that wants to be seen, and that seeks safety and happiness. This is natural. It is not wrong, it is simply how the personality is made. And then there is something else, something quieter and deeper: a spark of spirit, like a seed that does not come from this world of opposites. It whispers of truth, of freedom, of love that does not depend on getting anything in return. In the light of this seed, soul-consciousness can be born. The problem is that these two do not speak the same language. The personality says, “Protect yourself,” while soul-consciousness says, “Surrender yourself.” When both pull at us at the same time, it is no wonder that life feels like a struggle.

Perhaps the tensions we go through are not wrong. Let us see our conflicts and struggles as though they are a forge. Think of iron laid in fire: it is heated, hammered, and shaped, and so it becomes strong, useful, and beautiful. Conflict, both inner and outer, is the fire where the soul is tested and awakened. If we only fight inside it, we get burned. If we flee from it, it follows us. But if we dare to stand still in the fire, present and without choosing one side against the other, then something new begins to show itself.

At the heart of conflict there is a still point, a calm center in the heart. Perhaps you have noticed it yourself, in the middle of an argument when you suddenly stop defending yourself and just listen. Or in a moment of deep exhaustion when you let go of all resistance and a moment of peace arises. That is the still point. When we touch it, even just for a moment, we see that both sides of the struggle belong to the same perishable world. Neither is the ultimate truth. And from that realization something deeper awakens, a new perspective, a new way of being. The question shifts from “How can I win this conflict?” to “Who is it in me that keeps fighting?”

Our whole earthly life is woven of pairs: light and dark, joy and sorrow, birth and death. We cling to one side and flee from the other. But both belong to the same field. This is the veil of duality, the garment of personality. Yet behind this veil is something entirely different. And we cannot see it until we stop wrestling with the opposites. The personality is a wonderful instrument, but it was never built to carry the eternal. It is born in time and dies in time. Yet, in the exhaustion of conflict, a space opens. And in that space a new soul can be born. This is the second birth, an awakening of the immortal within the mortal. It is like a hidden rose that blossoms when the old struggle is finally laid down.

To live beyond conflict does not mean that nothing touches us anymore. It means that we no longer allow ourselves to be defined by our struggles. This is “the armor of the soul.” Not an armor of steel to fight against others, but an inner protection that comes from love, from truth, from surrender. It is a strength that does not need to strike back, a clarity that does not need to judge, a love that does not need to hold on. With this armor we can still face discussions at home, frustrations at work, and doubts within ourselves, but they no longer wound us at the core.

So, what do we really find beyond conflict? We find peace, not the fragile peace that collapses when life becomes difficult, but a peace that is always there, like a hidden spring beneath the ground. It carries us when everything else falls apart. It steadies us when our emotions tremble. It teaches us that silence can be stronger than argument, and that yielding can be stronger than force.

We find unity, not as an idea, but as a real experience. We begin to see the same spark of spirit shining in the hearts of those we stand against, as it shines in our own. And that realization changes everything. We still see differences, but we no longer see enemies. We see different expressions of the One Life.

And we find freedom. Freedom from being forced to fight, defend, grasp, prove. Freedom to rest in the eternal, to act without fear, to love unconditionally. This freedom feels like coming home, like laying down a burden carried far too long. Like sitting by the warmth of a fire after a cold journey. It is the joy of remembering who we truly are.

So let us not fear conflict, nor treat it as defeat. Conflict is the forge where something higher is formed within us. It is the doorway we must pass through, from the restless divided self to the peace of the undivided Spirit. For there is only one way out of conflict, and that is to stand in the conflict-free space of Spirit. It is not-I, but the-other-in-me, that is revealed when we are present.

When conflict comes, in our families, in our work, in our hearts, let us remember: this is not the end. It is the threshold. It is the teacher. And if we dare to endure the pain and stand still in its fire, if we dare to turn inward to the still point, we will discover that conflict is not the final word, but an opportunity for transformation.

Beyond lies a peace no storm can shake, a unity that cannot be broken, a freedom no power on earth can take away. And most of all, there lies the quiet joy of the soul returning to its golden home.

Once upon a time, there was a traveler who walked through many lands, seeking a treasure he could not name. He had climbed the highest mountains, where the air was thin while the stars felt close enough to touch. He had wandered through cities and villages and spent many hours at the feet of masters, collecting words like rare gems. And by now, he knew it all, but still, his heart never arrived.

One evening, tired from a long day of walking, he arrived at a quiet village in a valley, hidden between two rocky cliffs.

An old lady, sitting at the entrance on a stone, watched him approaching. Her eyes were deep and knowing, and her face held a kindness that made him pause to say hello.

“By the looks of it it seems that you have traveled far,” she said. “What is it you seek?” The traveler hesitated. “To be honest? I don’t know what I am looking for. I have searched for meaning, truth, and something beyond this world. I have learned many techniques and heard many ideas, but none could answer the longing that I carry in my heart.”
The old woman nodded in an understanding way. She looked at him and said: “Then you have been looking in the wrong places.” And she stood up and pointed at a small circle of trees with a stone in the middle. While pointing at it she said, «Sit there…. Be still… Be…”

The traveler frowned. He had climbed mountains and crossed deserts to talk with wise men, how could sitting still between these trees bring him anything new? But something in the woman’s voice was so familiar that it just compelled him to do as she said.

So there he sat. At first, his mind raced around, thinking of all the techniques he had learned, all the things he still had to do today, while in reality, he had nothing to do…

But as time passed by, he felt the sun warming his face, a warm flush of joy started running through his veins, he stopped racing and he started to be, and something new rose.

Beneath the noise of his racing mind and running heart, there was something else, something peaceful and quiet, something steady and familiar.

He found something else than he expected. He found “in being present” a Light that always was there, but that only waited to be noticed.

What he found in silence spoke to him in a wordless manner that he understood as follows:

The thing I seek never was outside of me.
It always is here.
It is only patiently waiting for me to become still enough to see it!”

When he realised this, his inner eye opened so clearly that he could not unsee the light he saw. When he left, he wanted to show his gratitude to the lady; only she had gone, but the silence stayed with him and surrounded him, accompanying him while love overflowed from him.

After this he knew that now his journey had truly begun.

The traveler’s story is the story of every soul that longs for something beyond the fleeting happenings of life.

We search for security in this world by chasing possessions, knowledge and achievements, believing that fulfillment is something to be found outside ourselves.

But sooner or later, we find that real understanding doesn’t come from accumulating new ideas. Real understanding arises from emptiness.

Emptiness or stillness are often misunderstood. Emptiness is not a lack of anything, nor is it a total void. Emptiness is more a clearing that is created to make space for the most radiant force of life.

Our mind, usually filled with its endless string of thoughts, speculations, opinions, and desires, leaves little room for the voice of the Eternal Spirit calling from our heart. It is only when we step out of our constant mental and emotional motions that we allow the silence to take root within us. Only in silence can something totally new emerge that is of a different nature.

Inner silence allows us to discover the workings of the laws of love and truth.
Inner silence knows the mystery of the Real.

The traveler, ceased running after something new and surrendered to stillness. He did not lose anything essential, but he finally discovered that the kingdom is not found in a teaching itself, but in the revelation of that teaching through each one of us, in the present moment.

The outer world often encourages us to keep on running and to keep on seeking and consuming in the illusion that it will make us stronger and find IT some day…

But the path is not some day, it is today. It is lit by the Light of the Spirit-spark while we empty ourselves through self-surrender, by letting be, and by becoming silent enough to be able to see by the Light of the Mystery.

In this silence, the spirit keeps fulfilling us while it nourishes our New Soul in such a way that it unfolds in a new reality.

And so, the traveler’s journey did not end with the end of the story, it had only just begun, in dedicating every moment of the day to keeping the silent undertone alive in the background of his being, to have it always close to access it fully.

We like to close our reflection on Silence with a poem by Kabir, called “The Sound of Silence.

“Have you heard the music no fingers have touched?
The silent song that rises in the heart,
where no strings are plucked,
where no breath is drawn,
yet the melody flows like a river?

Be still, and listen.
The flute is played without lips,
the drum beats without hands.
This is the music of the soul,
the song of the Infinite,
rising from the depths of silence.

You wander far, seeking wisdom,
but the jewel you long for is within.

Stop searching.
Sit in stillness.

How much wisdom is expressed in these words by Pythagoras.

The higher Wisdom is not some knowledge that can be grasped with the mind. It is an intense Power that goes out to every person who loves and yearns for true wisdom. As soon as we open our being to it, a pathway is created within us that connects us to the Sophia. Then, this path of the love for wisdom, the path of the true philosophers, becomes accessible to us again.

This path does not concern theories and rational understanding, although a certain level of understanding is required. The most important aspect is what we do with it – to what extent the Sophia, the true wisdom, may be realized through us. In the light of this true wisdom, we may consider our own convictions, examine our emotions, and find calmness and healing for our soul.

The goal is not to become a better human being, but a true Soul being. It is to open up to the Wisdom that can then flourish. The soul will then connect with the power behind this Wisdom, for this Wisdom originates in the Spirit, in the universal Seven-Spirit.

Long before our era, human beings learned to know and evaluate themselves and their relationship to the many aspects of creation through the legends about the adventures of gods and heroes.

In Greek mythology, for example, we find countless legends about how men desired with all their hearts to find true wisdom, but they nevertheless allowed themselves to be led astray again and again by following their own interests. And so, the hero, who began his quest full of enthusiasm, became trapped in a world of illusion and no longer lived in close connection with the gods.

The god-man, Prometheus, was put in chains. The legend tells how he was buried under the rubble of the world’s debris.

Such an existence ‘under the debris of the world’ perhaps comes close to our own experience in these times. Are we not also buried under the debris of the world, struggling to maintain a certain order in our state of mind, in our thinking, in our emotions?

When finding ourselves in that situation of helplessness, our soul longs for the light but cannot find it at first.

We create a certain morality and try to live according to it. We develop philosophies that are supposed to give us something to hold on to, so we can live according to our self-created morality. It is a philosophy to support and justify our own beliefs – the philosophy of self-will.

Thus, we struggle for stability in an ever-changing world. We get so immersed in it, that we lose the love for true wisdom and become trapped in the collective ideas of the world.

We bury ourselves under our own convictions and our personal vision of things. Yes, Prometheus is indeed buried under the debris of the world.

And yet, even though we are so deeply immersed in our journey through this world, there still exists a connection with Wisdom itself. This connection resides in our heart and whoever experiences this deprivation under the debris of the world always carries the liberating key in the core of her or his being.

As soon as we open our being to it, a pathway is created within us that connects us to the Sophia. The soul will then connect with the power behind this Wisdom. For this Wisdom has its origin in the Spirit.

The most profound secrets of the world and of the human being are hidden in the heart, in silence… and remain there long enough until each one of us decides to undertake a deep inner search to discover these mysteries.

Indeed, a human being can free themselves from the compelling influence exerted upon them by the endless wave of mental words. The one who reaches the stillness of the heart assimilates a very particular teaching, of an unusual nature, which opens him or her to a new understanding of what it means to be human.

In the Egyptian teachings, Hermes is a seeker. He seeks that truth, that unique wisdom. But before he can receive it, he must have regained the silence of the soul; that is, he must have prepared himself to understand, to hear and to receive inwardly.

That is why the voice of silence within him or referred to as Pymander, begins his teachings with these words:

“And now, keep silence, O Hermes Trismegistus, and remember well what I pass on to you.”

When the human being comes to open his heart in silence, he rediscovers within himself the long-hidden secret of true life. These words reveal to us a fragment of the secret of true life. It is about the rediscovery of the soul, the soul capable of hearing the Voice of Silence.

This divine Soul is a hidden dimension that lies in ourselves. It corresponds to a spiritual level that the human being once possessed, in which he participated fully, and which he must rediscover. This is the true meaning of his life, and it is also his mission!

This original, pure soul is always present in the human being as a higher spiritual principle. However, it is latent in him, withdrawn, hidden, turned imperceptible. Since the human being lives bound to his physical senses, he is exclusively oriented by them towards the outer world.

However, even through our ceaseless outwardly oriented, noisy, tense, troubled world, there radiates continuously a spiritual, renewing, higher energy, which comes from the original Being.

It is the Light, the vibration, the sound born of eternal silence.

That sound is the primordial sound that generates light and life; it sends its vibrations, its call to the world in search of a resonance within the sleeping human soul. This spiritual force of the cosmos seeks contact with the spiritual core of the human being. Only when silence penetrates the human heart can it reach the divine core, can a response be brought from the divine core, which corresponds to the heart.

We are disciples of the Light by means of the power of the Light, which is always in our midst. When we consciously receive and transmit this Light to all humanity, the fate of the world can be turned around, opening the liberating path for all.

The living Water will flow from the eternal Nature and heal everyone who is open to it. The Fire will purify humanity, releasing it from all illusion. The Bread and the Wine of the Spirit will be given to all who have purified their souls, enabling them to walk the liberating path that leads to Unity with the One.

The book Tao Teh King is the only known text from the writings of the Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu. Although written around 2500 years ago, its content never gets old. Its divine core is the same as that of original texts from all philosophies and religions. 

The great challenge in these texts is to express that which is beyond words.

The first verse of the Tao Teh King by Lao Tzu reads:

”The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao. The name that can be named is not the eternal name.” 

And despite this, we constantly try to put it in words. 

We do that to communicate with each other as seekers and to help each other and ourselves to understand and recognise the Tao within us. 

As someone once said, when we talk about the Tao in this way, all we can do is fail as well as we can. 

In verse fourteen of the Tao Teh King we read:

Look, it cannot be seen – it is beyond form.

Listen, it cannot be heard – it is beyond sound.

Grasp, it cannot be held – it is intangible.

These three are indefinable;

therefore they are joined in one.

From above, it is not bright;

from below, it is not dark;

an unbroken thread beyond description.

It returns to nothingness.

The form of the formless,

the image of the imageless,

it is called indefinable and beyond imagination.

Stand before it, and there is no beginning.

Follow it, and there is no end.

Stay with the ancient Tao,

move with the present.

Knowing the ancient beginning is the essence of Tao.

As a pupil of Tao, you need to give your animal ego, in total surrender to the Kingdom within you, to the rose of the heart.

That is our most important task. 

It is with this Johannine practice that the true seekers path must begin. 

The light of this path is our deepest longing, a longing for something we don’t really know.  

We can view our longing as the thread of Ariadne, the thin thread leading out of the maze created by our conflicted hearts and minds.

By following this archaic longing, we can arrive at a way of living that, in the Tao Teh King, is called Wu-Wei.

The concept of Wu-Wei is central to the teachings of Lao Tsu. It is often translated as not-doing or non-action.

Verse forty-three reads:

The softest thing in the Universe

overcomes the hardest thing in the universe

That without substance can enter where there is no room.

Hence, I know the value of non-action.

Teaching without words and work without doing

are understood by very few.

The heart must exist in a state of not-doing, not-being. If it is in the state of being, it will be filled with a thousand and one worries, desires and concerns of ordinary life. 

Not doing, does not just mean distanceing ourselves from ordinary, everyday life. 

Lao Tzu’s not-doing means that we do not try to grasp anything with our ego but abide in a still, tranquil joy. 

Not doing does not mean not existing, but abiding in a stillness where one can feel the pulsation of Taos’s spiritual essence. 

What is meant by not doing, with the expression Wu-Wei, is to go forward in this joy, in total self-surrender to the rose of the heart.

Such a heart forms the mystery of the gate unto life.

Verse sixteen of the Tao Teh King reads:

Empty yourself of everything.

Let the mind rest at peace.

The ten thousand things rise and fall while the Self watches their return.

They grow and flourish and then return to the source.

Returning to the source is stillness, which is the way of nature.

The way of nature is unchanging.

Knowing constancy is insight.

Not knowing constancy leads to disaster.

Knowing constancy, the mind is open.

With an open mind, you will be openhearted.

Being openhearted, you will act royally.

Being royal, you will attain the divine.

Being divine, you will be at one with Tao.

Being at one with Tao is eternal.

And though the body dies, Tao will never pass away.

The new life is not of us but of the other One, in whom our self melts entirely away. 

And that is the meaning of not doing. That is the way, the Path. 

That is Tao.

There is in all teachings a path that is devoted to Love. It is for example found in Sufism, Hermeticism, Buddhism and in Gnosticism and it is the source of many philosophies, myths and legends from all over the world. This path of love teaches us always (like the Naguna Bhakhti in the Vedanta) that love based actions, remove jealousy, hatred, lust, anger, egoism, pride, and arrogance. These teachings tell us that love replaces those feelings with feelings of divine joy, bliss, peace, and with limitless wisdom.

This love is the Love path of Christ. It is the path of the Rose of love That opens its petals on the cross of life revealing its radiant and fragrant heart.

Love can be likened to a small seed that lands in the crack of a rock. There it sprouts, growing into a strong flower that spreads its petals as in an embracing manner to the sun while it cracks the rock of matter with its roots without even thinking of it…

When we dive into the sacred teachings of all ages that lie deep within ourselves, then we will learn that Love is a stream of light. That it is like an inaudible sound current that ever emanates as a vibrating Word, or like the eternal verb that reverberates in everything. We say “In Everyting” Because Nothing is excluded from this vibrant sea of love apart from our own incapability to love.

And if we are looking for a path to God then we should start to strive after a deeper and fuller love, because love brings us closer to God, because God and Love are one and the same.

Without love we are nothing, while with love we are limitless.
Love is a sacred substance that brings harmony to this world and to the next world.
When we start to know love then we see that what is made without love is always incomplete or half done. We can see that what is done with love radiates an essence that tells us that things are in their right place while we feel that with love we are home, no matter where we are.

Our home is the kingdom of Love.
 And at home, we see and meet everyone past their mask. We see the radiance of their heart. We see the immanent and eternal beauty shining behind each soul. We see in their heart what we know in our own heart. And we seek to meet them from heart to heart in the orchard of love. We are one in this unifying current of Love.

In old stories kings and queens and knights and princesses come to union through this path of love, bringing the holy grail, that overflows with transformative Love. This while Gnostic hymns sing about the consumation on the wedding bed in the holy presence of the all fulfilling love.

Love always seeks to redirect us to the center of our being that is surrounded by love. We are in essence the love we seek, the love that we originally are, the love that is God. Like it says in John 4 verse 8 “Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is Love.”

Love brings us to the ultimate wisdom and opens us up to a straight and sure way to God.

And listen to what Rumi had to say about knowing Love:

I once had a thousand desires,
 but in my one desire to know you all else melted away.
The pure essence of your being
has taken over my heart and soul.
Now there is no second or third,
but only the sound of your sweet cry.
Through your grace I have found
 a treasure within myself.
I have found the truth of the Unseen world.
I have come upon the eternal ecstasy.
I have gone beyond the ravages of time.
I have become one with you!

And now my heart sings: “I am the soul of the world.”

Love, beloved friends, IS the soul of the world and countless are the lovers of the beloved. God is love and each one of us is a drop of love in His divine ocean of love. The ocean that is our inner destination of divine peace, limitless wisdom and boundless joy.

The highest teachings of Love tell us that God is formless and that our path is created when we devote ourselves to the Love that is present in all things. In this love we lack the desire for personal gain because what is there to want if you have everything?

God is the infinite ocean of love, God’s Love embodies all creation, it is free from all burdens and it is the solution to each problem that we have.

Letting Love speak means letting God speak.
The fire of love will tear down inner and outer walls.
This fire deconstructs us so that we can be reconstructed to a pure form through which the Light of love can shine forth limitlessly.

As it says in John 4 verse 16:

God is love, and those who abide in love, abide in God, and God abides in them

The nature of Love surpasses all description while its ultimate consciousness contains everything.

So we gain wisdom when we remain in love, because when we remain in Love then we also abide in its Wisdom that will change the world through our actions.

And after being touched by Love, we will hear Love, see Love, and speak with Love, and ultimately, we are consumed by the fire of Love of God.

Or like Kabir said.

Go deeper … Past thoughts into silence. Past silence into stillness. Past stillness into the heart. Let Love consume all that is left of you.

We have to adjust our ways to live out of the abundance of love. We need to become followers of Love and meet everyone in love.

Like the Buddha said:

Love is a gift of one’s innermost soul to another so that both can be whole.

We have the deep inner capability of love that harmonises disharmonies and that heals what is sick.
What is broken becomes restored by love.
What is too much gets lessened by love
while what is too little becomes more by love.
Love is the ultimate balance of justice of the universe.

So in this balance of Love we should place our hearts.

Does our action stand the test of Love?
Is our heart submerged in the freedom of love so that it is feather light?
Are our hearts and minds so free in love that there is no space for judgements?
Are our actions so full of love that they bring what’s dead back to life?

If we stand in love then we know what to let be and what it is that needs to be done. Then our energy changes while our souls regain harmony in the powers that radiate of the love that we witness. We are nourished by its energies.

And then all bliss is seen and brought to Life, by harmonizing everything to Love.

Love teaches us that all is holy, and that all that is not out of love should be made whole again.

The  American indian Ojibwa tribe has the following prayer.

 Teach us love, compassion, and honor, so that we may heal the earth and heal each other.

A Gnostic hymn called  «The sacrament of the bridal chamber:» speaks about the Soul that has received through love union with the Christ – that is Love.

When this old text speaks of “She” then it speaks about the soul:

She has found her rising.
She has come to rest in the one who is at rest.
She has reclined in the bridal chamber.
She has eaten of the banquet for which she has hungered.
She has partaken of immortal food.
She has found what she has sought.
She has received rest from her labors, and the light shining on her does not set.

To the light belongs the glory and the power and the revelation, forever and ever.

In this love we are led to freedom.
In this love we will unite with the freedom of love which is the freedom of everything in everything…
And it is in this freedom that we are one in one love.

The Tao is said to be undefinable, but still, the Tao is often defined as “the source of everything” and as the “ultimate principle”. The source of everything sounds pretty far away if we try to wrap our heads around it, so how do we recognize this source?

Most often, it is the best reference that we have ourselves.

So, let’s take a moment to look within ourselves to see if we can recognize the unrecognizable Tao in some way as the most natural state within ourselves.

Many of us have examined ourselves and discovered that we have two sides. Like we have two halves. One universal half never changes, and a very personal half that changes every moment.

We see these two halves in many myths. Usually, they are in a fight, or at least one is jealous of the other and a bit stabby. This stabby one typically gets knocked on the head to knock out the annoying brain… Odin and Loki, Castor and Pollux myth and many others tell such stories of our divine soul and its mental burden.

Our soul is the divine hero in many myths and legends that fights against its nemeses from the material realm. And this is us. We carry this unnamable divine essence within us, and we create a crack in our being through our deep longing for it. When we have this crack, we discover the difference between “the inner silence” and “the noise of the ego”. We see the difference between our “joyful rest and peace” and our “agitated” state. These are like two very different states… One of noise and one of tranquil silence.

When we connect with the silence of the heart rather than to the noisy mind, we find a harmonious law that expresses itself as life through the silence. This Law, this Tao, brings harmony to all things, including the agitations in our lives when we trust them to it.

The book “Tao The Ching” by “Lao Zu” expresses this universal law of Tao.

These verses touch simply a deep universal truth.

The poem puts us in the right mindset from the start by telling us in plain and simple words how we can resolve all the troubles and conflicts of our lives.

The Tao Te Ching reminds us continuously to stay in the flow by a “not being” and by a “letting be”, so that we can be receptacles of the Tao essence.

But let’s look a little more within ourselves to find this Tao…

Did you ever notice that omnipresent essence within you? That one that you can’t remember but that you neither can’t forget? It is like a song we remember while we can’t recall the words or the melody. We need to re-hear it to remember it…

And what we remember is the omnipresent Tao, which can only manifest itself in us when we become still. And it is in this inner silence that we experience a universal knowledge that we hardly can explain.

Tao Te Ching – Verse 1

The tao that can be told
is not the eternal Tao
The name that can be named
is not the eternal Name.

The unnamable is the eternally real.
Naming is the origin
of all particular things.

Free from desire, you realize the mystery.
Caught in desire, you see only the manifestations.

Yet mystery and manifestations
arise from the same source.
This source is called darkness.

Darkness within darkness.
The mystical gateway to all understanding.

And verse six

The valley spirit never dies;
It is the woman, the primal mother.
Her gateway is the root of heaven and Earth.
It is like a veil barely seen.
Use it; it will never fail.

Many creation stories start similarly. The first origin, the unnamable God, the Father, expressed itself, and then the uncreated becomes created. And creation is symbolized in Taoism by the “mother” or the “mystical gate”. So the mother, or this gate, is in a constant state of manifestation of life. The mother continually gives birth to life through the Holy Spirit, who in the Tao Te Ching is called: “the valley spirit”.

This Spirit is the same as the Gnostic Logos, the Word, the seven vowels or inaudible harmony that continually manifests life through the ever-flowing Gnostic Pleroma. This is the Kingdom of Heaven that continuously overflows within our hearts and outside of our hearts. This is the unnamable flow of Tao that is in everything, everywhere.

And just like every true spiritual tradition asks us to unite with this flow or word, the Taosists do the same by saying that we must follow the “path of Tao”, which is the inner path of life that brings both inner and outer life to a natural flow…

On this path, we learn to balance the subtle harmonies of heaven so that we will manifest those more and more through our lives. And we will often fall, but if we long for this peace, we will get back up and back in the race for that internal gold no matter how frequently we stumble.  Our longing for love always takes us back on track to the invisible source that gives us eternal peace.

Love is a harmony that always keeps to the middle, and this middle way brings peace. It is in this balance of peace that the Taoistic path is found. Inner balance is essential because we quickly go mentally, emotionally, and physically out of balance when we carry too much weight. This is why the middle way of the Tao instructs us to surrender our burdens to that flow. To trust to let them to the flow of time that takes it away behind us.

Only when we leave things behind like this will a silent space be created in which the Tao can manifest itself in us.

To put this more concretely. We should eliminate all bad habits that hide the Tao from us so that we will be met with an overflowing wealth that brings balance to everything.

In chapter 4 of the Tao Teh Ching, it is written:

The Tao is an empty vessel; it is used but never filled.
Oh, unfathomable source of ten thousand things!
Blunt the sharpness,
Untangle the knot,
Soften the glare,
Merge with dust.
Oh, hidden deep but ever present!
I do not know from whence it comes.
It is the forefather of the gods.

Tao is the unknown and invisible dimension that resonates as the highest harmony in our visible dimension. This harmony, sometimes called the “voice of silence,” calls out to us so powerfully that it is like a light attracting moths. And as we follow our inner pilgrimage towards this light, we will discover that the Tao is a spiritual realm that never changes. Our inner path becomes a Taoist alchemical process where we slowly transform into the perfected golden flower that radiates in her spiritual domain.

During this alchemical process, We stop looking with the eyes of the senses so that we can see for real; We stop listening with the ears of the senses so that we can hear for real; we stop doing so that the Tao can touch us in “not doing” and bring us to the real. And when we try to be honest like this and stop creating more ripples on the waters of life, we are recreated by creation itself and act accordingly…

Chapter 14 of the Tao Teh Ching states:

Look, it cannot be seen – it is beyond form.
Listen, it cannot be heard – it is beyond sound.
Grasp, it cannot be held – it is intangible.
These three are indefinable;
Therefore, they are joined as one.

From above, it is not bright;
From below, it is not dark:
It’s an unbroken thread beyond description.
It returns to nothingness.
The form of the formless,
The image of the imageless,
It is called indefinable and beyond imagination.

Stand before it, and there is no beginning.
Follow it, and there is no end.
Stay with the ancient Tao,
Move with the present.
Knowing the ancient beginning is the essence of Tao.

When we listen to the Tao, we listen to the silent voice from within without judgment. We are silent witnesses who don’t create concepts and ideas when looking for the Tao. We instead let be.

And to be receptive to the Tao means to let things be and to be open to the present moment. This letting be is not a forced detachment but a stepping back, or a detachment from the things we are just beginning to cling to, by non-doing, because it is better not to hold on to things. After all, then there is nothing to let go of either.

When we step back, in the state of surrender called “wu wei”, we will be greeted by the three treasures often mentioned in Taoism. These are compassion, simplicity and modesty.

We receive a compassionate heart, a simple mind and modest actions.

And as a self-test, we should perhaps ask ourselves:

Is our heart compassionate?
Is our head simple?
Are our actions modest?

If we were, we would witness and understand the Tao in everything!
But we all lack at least one of these three: compassion, simplicity or modesty.

In chapter 56 it says:

Those who know do not talk.
Those who talk do not know.

Keep your mouth closed.
Guard your senses.
Temper your sharpness.
Simplify your problems.
Mask your brightness.
Be at one with the dust of the Earth.
This is primal union.

He who has achieved this state
Is unconcerned with friends and enemies,
With good and harm, with honor and disgrace.
This, therefore, is the highest state of man.

This is how we learn to be quiet, let go, accept, surrender, and get to “the other side of good and bad”. We have to reach a point where we say, “Enough is enough”, and there we must go from trying to do everything about some situation to an active “letting be” or “not doing”. We have to come to that surrendered Wu Wei spot that brings peace.

In Tao Teh Ching chapter 63 it says:

Practice non-action.
Work without doing.
Taste tasteless.
Magnify the small, increase the few.
Reward bitterness with care.

See simplicity in the complicated.
Achieve greatness in little things.

In the universe, the difficult things are done as if they are easy.
In the universe, great acts are made up of small deeds.
The sage does not attempt anything very big,
And thus achieved greatness.

Easy promises make for little trust.
Taking things lightly results in great difficulty.
Because the sage always confronts difficulties,
He never experiences them.

Tao moderates.

Following the Tao will prevent us from crossing boundaries so that we don’t lose our balance. It shows us the weeds so that we can pull them out by their roots, bringing peace to our hearts. The Tao always brings a peaceful balance within us when we yield to it by not doing, by inwardly accepting our fate. If we wish to maintain this peace, we must dissolve all our reactions into the cauldron of our inner silence. And when we let our reactions be, a merciful peace will follow. So we must stop resisting life and surrender to its current as it flows in the moment.

We must live in the Spirit of Tao; we must bow our heads to become modest and utterly devoid of judgment. Only without personal prejudices can we see things in the truthful light of their present reality, while we leave the judgements up to the laws of Tao.

Tao Teh Ching 22 says:

Yield and overcome;
Bend and be straight;
Empty and be full;
Wear out and be new;
Have little and gain;
Have much and be confused.

Therefore, the wise embraces the one
And set an example to all.
Not putting on a display,
They shine forth.
Not justifying themselves,
They are distinguished.
Not boasting,
They receive recognition.
Not bragging,
They never falter.
They do not quarrel,
So no one quarrels with them.
Therefore the ancients say, “Yield and overcome.”
Is that an empty saying?
Be whole,
And all things will come to you.

The Spirit of Tao finds us when we yield and find a little crack of inner silence within. In this silence, the divine in us meets with the Divine in everything else, and the divine essence, “the Taoist Golden Flower within us”, comes to bloom. And for the Secret Golden Flower to bloom, we must give it space. We must become so strengthened by silence that we can even stand in the fiercest battle in silence. And we stand there as the caretaker, aware of the wounds that must be treated on all sides.

If we know how to yield and find some silence, we must do hard work to take care of this delicate silence within us.

We have to protect it and look after it by listening to it, paying attention to it and following its instructions regarding what changes we need to make to stand firmly and wisely on the path of Tao.

Answers always arise everywhere when we try to see life from the spacious stillness that blossoms in the moment.

If we don’t try, then we find answers in our own lives.
If we don’t try, we find answers in the sun, moon and stars.
If we don’t try, then we find answers by a tree by a lake,
But we also find our inner answers by not trying when we stand or walk in a busy shopping mall.
In such stillness, we are protected; in it, we also find more written in a single flower than thousands of books can describe.

So why don’t we try to exchange the noisy moment for the stillness of the present moment that is now? Only by “not getting too much caught by life” can we find unlimited freedom in Tao while we live our wave of life. So live wisely and “let be”, so you will be left with a fulfilled silence. And when this unnamable silence multiplies in you, then the balance of Tao will indeed find you.

If we live in this limitless now, together with the Spirit of Tao, then the spirit of Tao will heal us and lead us via our inner paths back to our harmonious original state, which is a state of eternal peace. It is the state of the Taoisitic  uncarved block…´

And on our path, the true spirit of the valley is with us, helping us wherever we give it space. The spirit of invisible harmony leads us back to our origin. We find our way when we follow what is right by the Tao. If we follow its flow, we will see our task in the fullness of love, while we serve the world with a fire of peace, no matter who we are or where we are…

And if we are united and ignited in the same fullness of love, our flames create an intense fire that will call everyone towards their morning of awakening.  And whether we will come to that awakening or not depends on whether we switch our minds from “not letting be” to “letting be”.

In Tao Teh Ching 81 it says:

Truthful words are not beautiful.
Beautiful words are not truthful.
Good men do not argue.
Those who argue are not good.
Those who know are not learned.
The learned do not know.

The wise man never tries to store things up.
The more he does for others, the more he has.
The more he gives to others, the greater his abundance.
The Tao of Heaven is pointed but does not harm.
The Tao of the wise man is to work without effort.

Let us reflect together for a moment…

We will start our reflection with the perspective on the earth from space.

Have you ever heard or read about the so called “Overview Effect”?

This is the name astronauts give to a life-changing experience: seeing our Earth planet from space. Can you imagine that? Being weightless while looking from an enormous distance at that small blue-white sphere against the background of a huge, dark void?
It seems so random, but still, it is perfectly balanced: the precise distance from the sun ensures optimal temperatures, the unique blend of oxygen, nitrogen, and water in the atmosphere fosters life, and the rotational speed brings a rhythmic cycle of day and night. Everything is in perfect harmony.

From space, the borders between countries have vanished, while the conflicts over these borders suddenly seem irrelevant. When we are looking from this larger perspective, then everything seems interconnected, everything seems to rely on everything, which underlines the importance of treating our planet with care and sustainability.

Astronauts describe this Overview Effect as an indescribable but life-altering experience that influences their whole outlook.

In our contemplation, we also will seek the Overview Effect, but then by detaching for a moment from our busy daily lives that takes place in a divided world. Let us, for a moment, zoom out entirely and become silent. Let’s take a moment to look together at the great perspective that is connected to our lives, to humanity – yes, to the entire planet. This great perspective we sometimes experience in a quiet moment is indescribable, and we sense how significant and life-altering these moments are for shaping our daily lives.

We are inhabitants of the universe – the macrocosm – and of our planet, our Earth, but we also inhabit our own smaller worlds: our microcosms.

It was in 1543, that the mathematician and astronomer Copernicus demonstrated in his book “On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres” that the earth was not the center of the universe, as had been assumed until that time. Instead, in his heliocentric model, the Earth orbits the Sun, which was a paradigm shift that marked the start of a new scientific way of thinking, resulting in the development of our modern natural science.

Right now, we live in an era of new realization. As industrialization and economic development strain our ecosystem, causing rising temperatures and reduced biodiversity, we start to become aware of the fact that humanity is actually not the center of life on Earth. We can even come aware to the fact that there is a spiritual sun that maintains the all harmonious life that we are only barely learning to attune to.

What is it that forms the center of our microcosm, of our own, small world? When will we realize that thoughts, desires, feelings, ideas, and actions, are not the center of our small world? And what lies deeply hidden in every human heart, at the centre of every microcosm? What is that Sun around which our inner world can orbit?

St. Augustine wrote, “Man was created so that there might be a new beginning.” The philosopher Hannah Arendt suggests that we continuously carry the potential for a new birth within ourselves.

The School of the Golden Rosycross sees this same message as the goal of every human life: To be born into one’s original being. To become authentic while being truly Human, as we enter into a New Soul, into a New Consciousness.

We are talking about a birth that begins in the centre of our being while simultaneously happening in the world around us. While we take our place in its sacred ecosystem, we find out that the laws that govern us within also govern everything without.

Everything that we find in nature is in constant development, driven and nourished by sunlight. Consider, for example, how sunlight penetrates the bottom of a lake, where a lotus stem pushes through the warmed mud, turning towards the light. It pushes forwards towards the light until it breaks open in a perfect bloom on the surface of the water and to be embraced by the sun’s rays.

Nature is dynamized with inner solar energy that drives everting to harmony, and we can find this also in the unity of macrocosm, of cosmos, and of micro-cosmos. Everything is brought to the perfect dynamics of the omnipresent Light.

So everything in existence is called by the light to develop according to God’s great plan. Everything is continuously called up to be consciously moved by it and to build with it. And in his our question of “why are we here” can evaporate, as we recognize that we are here to build in unison with this divine plan.

God is sometimes called a circle whose center is everywhere while its circumference is nowhere. God is an omnipresent and invisible Light: a radiation of love that we can’t perceive with our human consciousness, because it is infinite and all including. Its perspective is unfathomable for our concrete minds.

But nothing exists outside of this divine sphere of love as everything falls within its infinite field.

The centre of god, so of love, is everywhere. So, each living entity, from atoms to galaxies, is connected to the harmonizing power of this inner Light. Everything is unified from its invisible centre to every other centre that also lies within this field of the Divine, sometimes called heaven.

Maybe it is now easier to see yourself as a microcosm seeking to find the orbit of the original central sun of love that lies in your heart. This is despite the chaos, struggle, and separation that we all experience in this world. Maybe it is easier to see that we, at the centre of our being, are touched by the Divine. At the centre of our being, we are part of the same divine sun that also lies at the centre of everybody else. And it vibrates in our being – it is the omnipresent divine Light of love that radiates in one unity without any separation.

When we give space to that inner Light, to that love that warms everyone and everything, then we can let our lives be driven and nourished by it, while the birth of a New Consciousness arises naturally from its centre.

What does out planet need right now? What does the world ask of us?

Is it simply to care for the Earth, make conscious choices, and repair its damages?
Or is there something more fundamental?

Around us, humanity seeks sustainability while many are worried about nature and the climate because the ecological limits and the livability of our planet become very visible. At the same time, humanity searches for natural growth, driven by a longing for peace and freedom free from the laws of space and time as it seeks the freedom of God within God. At best, each human being seeks to unite his inner, exiled God with the absolute freedom of God while she or he accepts all the consequences of the transformative path towards it.

A century ago, Inayat Khan was asked: “What does the world need now?”

He answered:

‘What is needed is the awakening of the spiritual ideal for humanity, the realization that humanity itself is the Holy Scripture.
Now people’s eyes must be opened to read His Scripture in all life.
All nature is the Handwriting of God if only people could read it.’
 
When we find the central sun in the silenct space of our being, then we are enabled to read the characters of this scripture in all life, we recognize its words from every essence that we meet.

When we then choose to base our lives on this living essence, on this inner sun, on this nucleus that is the harmony of love, all answers will naturally rise within ourselves and without, while we all become builders of a sacred earth.
