Webinar: The Path of the Heart, as illustrated by an Ancient Rosicrucian text from 1617

December 1 - 19:00 - 20:30

This event has passed.

On Sunday evening, December 1, 2024, the author  André de Boer will present a lecture on “The Path of the Heart,” as illustrated by an ancient Rosicrucian text from 1617 by Daniel Cramer.

Cramer’s emblem book, The True Society of Jesus and the Rosy Cross (1617), comprises 40 sacred emblems that carry profound esoteric meaning. This lecture provides a unique opportunity to delve into their symbolism and understand their relevance to today’s Rosicrucian tradition. A scan of the original book can be found here .

André will go more specifically into:

“I meditate,
I have to go,
I become enlightened,
I am increasing,
I seek the heights,
I am protected,
I hope for renewal.”

The webinar will start with an introduction, after which we can share our thoughts.

We warmly invite you to join us for this special event. The meeting will begin at 19:00 Central European Time.

More information about the Rosicrucian Emblems of Daniël Cramer

The Rosicrucian movement emerged from a Christian tradition, where a hidden treasure within Protestantism was waiting to be unveiled. It presents both a way of life and a path that can be discovered by seekers and pilgrims alike.

This path welcomes all backgrounds, with no prerequisites or requirements. Anyone can explore, try, and, with some guidance, follow this way.

There are many alchemical texts—and sometimes challenging illustrations—that each reveals a part of this path. Daniel Cramer’s book (Brandenburg 1568-1637) offers a clear view of the stages along this path, guiding readers through the mystical journey of the Rosicrucians. This work consists of forty emblems centred on the heart, which relates to the soul and reflects the exile from and return to paradise.

As we navigate through the layers of the heart, we uncover various aspects corresponding to the forty emblems, which are grouped into four sets of ten. Each group delves into a distinct level of the heart, revealing insights about this spiritual journey. The emblems resemble symbols within a book, where one can gradually understand the language of these symbols and grasp their deeper meanings.

Supporting diagrams illustrate these complex ideas, and as we contemplate these emblems, we can momentarily stand at the intersection of the horizontal and vertical dimensions, where the emblems and text come alive in meditation and prayer.

The birth and death of human life occur within time and space, but the purification and rebirth of the soul take place beyond these limits in the realm of the Mundus Imaginalis. Here, the soul is purified and reborn instantly, and the false self dissolves while the true self begins to serve the soul.

Further are the names of the forty emblems, in Latin and English, divided into four sets of ten, and the forty biblical verses that inspired them.

Phase I

The first phase shows the path of the false personality, which must die. Here, the entire personality undergoes a purification, releasing it from worldly attachments.

Molleco – ‘I become soft.’
Is not My word like fire, declares the Lord, or like a hammer that breaks a rock into pieces?
Jeremiah 23:29

Cresco – ‘I am increasing.’
The seed that falls on good soil represents those who hear the Word, hold it in an honest and good heart, and bear fruit with perseverance.
Luke 8:15

Alta peto – ‘I seek the heights.’
Make me know the path I should take, for to You I lift up my soul. Rescue me from my enemies, Lord; in You I take refuge.
Psalm 143:8-9

Amo – ‘I love.’
Awake, north wind, and come, south wind! Blow through my garden, so that its fragrance may spread. Let my Beloved come into His garden and taste its best fruits!
Song of Solomon 4:16

Lateo – ‘I am hidden.’
Oh, that You would hide me in the grave, that You would conceal me until Your anger turns away; that You would set a limit for me and remember me!
Job 14:13

Illuminor – ‘I am enlightened.’
For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light, we see light.
Psalm 36:9

Sum Constans – ‘I am steadfast.’
My suffering grew more intense, my heart grew hot within me. As I mused, the fire burned.
Psalm 39:3

Suspiro – ‘I breathe.’
For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved.
2 Corinthians 2:15

Liberor – ‘I am freed.’
Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.
Philippians 3:12

Revivisco – ‘I come back to life.’
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 1:5

Illuminor – “I become enlightened.”
For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light, we see light.
Psalm 36:10

Sum Constans – “I am steadfast.”
My anguish increased, my heart grew hot within me. As I mused, the fire burned.
Psalm 39:4

Suspiro – “I breathe.”
For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved.
2 Corinthians 2:15

Liberor – “I am freed.”
Not that I have already obtained all this or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.
Philippians 3:12

Revivisco – “I come back to life.”
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 1:5

Phase II

The second phase shows the path of the true personality that has been freed. This phase also involves deep purification. Whereas it was once focused on the world, it now becomes receptive and transparent, making room for the soul to express itself and take on its task.

Vivo – ‘I live.’
For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.
Philippians 1:21

Sanor – ‘I am healed.’
Come, let us return to the Lord. He has torn us to pieces, but He will heal us; He has injured us, but He will bind up our wounds.
Hosea 6:1

Periclitor – I am in danger.
Deep calls to deep in the roar of Your waterfalls; all Your waves and breakers have swept over me.
Psalm 42:8

Crucifigor – I am crucified.
For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God. I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.
Galatians 2:19-20

Meditor – I meditate.
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Galatians 6:9

Redimor – I am redeemed.
Do not trust in oppression, nor put vain hope in robbery; if riches increase, do not set your heart on them.
Psalm 62:10

Mellifico – I become sweet.
For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.
2 Corinthians 2:16

Nil sum – I am nothing.
For we know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. I do not understand what I do; for what I want to do, I do not do, but what I hate, I do.
Romans 7:14-15

Praepondero – I weigh more.
For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.
Romans 6:14

Superaedificor – I build myself up.
Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
Matthew 7:24

Phase III

The third phase reflects the path of the soul. It opens itself to symbolic reality, where it functions as a mirror to the heavenly man Adam. Now it can reach maturity.

Absolvor – I am forgiven.
The handwriting that was against us has been wiped out, with its decrees against us; He has taken it away by nailing it to the cross.
Colossians 2:14

Non laeder – I am unharmed.
Like a lily among thorns, so is my beloved among the daughters.
Song of Solomon 2:2

Predestinor – I am predestined.
The Lord said to me, “Son of man, take careful note, see with your eyes and hear with your ears everything I tell you concerning the regulations of the house of the Lord and all its laws. Take note of who may enter the house and all who are excluded from the sanctuary.”
Ezekiel 44:5

Probor – I am tested by fire.
This is the regulation for the burnt offering, for the priests: on the north side, a length of twenty-five thousand cubits; on the west, a width of ten thousand cubits; on the east, a width of ten thousand cubits; and on the south, a length of twenty-five thousand cubits. And the sanctuary of the Lord shall be in the middle of it.
Ezekiel 48:10

Refrigeror – I am cooled.
As for the prince, he shall sit in it as to eat bread before the Lord. He shall enter by way of the vestibule of the gateway and go out the same way.
Ezekiel 44:3

Phase III:

Protegor – I am protected.
Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
Psalm 91:1

Sannas fero – I endure mockery.
The yoke of the tongue is an iron yoke, and its bonds are bonds of brass.
Ecclesiasticus (Sirach) 28:23

Fidelis sum – I am faithful.
Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.
Revelation 2:10

Infernum timeo – I fear hell.
(This reference is not clear in your provided text; if it is Ezekiel 66:24, this is unusual since Ezekiel has only 48 chapters.

Refectionem spero – I hope for renewal.
He waited seven more days and again sent the dove out of the ark.
Genesis 8:10

Phase IV

The fourth phase leads the soul to maturity. It becomes a heavenly being, the restored Adam, a bridge between heaven and earth. With each inhalation, it incarnates and works to redeem others; with each exhalation, it ascends to gather strength. Now, human breath aligns with the breath of the Holy.

Qui stift bibit – He who is thirsty will drink.
Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.
John 4:14

Limus fixus – Dirt: impurity.
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Matthew 6:21

Suffer and learn.
The words of the Lord are pure words, like silver refined in a clay furnace, purified seven times.
Psalm 12:6

Nec titras nec ultra – Neither to the right nor to the left.
Let us pass through your country. We will not go through fields or vineyards, nor drink water from wells. We will follow the king’s highway and will not turn to the right or to the left until we have passed through your territory.
Numbers 20:17

Samentia Simplex – Simple wisdom.
I am sending you out like sheep among wolves; therefore, be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.
Matthew 10:16

O Vanitas – O vanity.
But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them.
Matthew 15:18

Emigrandum – I have to go.
Let brotherly love continue.
Hebrews 13:1

Suspiro – I sigh.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28

Mors Lucrum – Death is a gain.
I am hard-pressed between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better, but to remain in the flesh is more necessary for you.
Philippians 1:23

Sic Alor – Thus I am nourished.
Where there is a dead body, there the vultures will gather.
Matthew 24:28
